Don’t get me wrong – I love the intimacy and eye sight range of small venues, but to hear these big sounds, these intricate, and multi-faceted, these deep, soul catching Tea Party soundscapes through the larger than life sound system and spaciousness of Rogers Place…

There are some musicians who attain the title of rock god because of their unique, powerful, prodigious musical abilities. And there are those who reach rock god status because they unequivocally and irreversibly alter the world of music and or the world itself. And then there is Sarah McLachlan.

But seeing Hozier live on August 24 at Rogers Place for his Unreal Unearth Tour, this voice of voices rolls out in goose-bump-forming tones. (Or, as someone behind me bewilderingly exclaimed: “how can he sound like that!? What magic is this?!”) Poetry in motion.

Who in the 80s didn’t come under the spell of White Wedding or Mony Mony? Or of that snarl? And the hair. And, umm, the leather.

On the one hand, I’m so sorry you were unable to attend this concert. On the other, I am so grateful I got to go in your place!

Depeche Mode is no stranger to these darker, melancholic, gothic themes. They were the vampire band before vampire bands were a thing.

But WOW! Did we ever appreciate the heck out of Nickelback last week! Maybe it’s partly because these are Alberta boys from just down the QEII and around the corner. But maybe it’s just that they are that good live.

She did for country music what Harry Potter did for literature. She didn’t just cross over genres, she tore down the walls. It seemed like everyone was listening to Shania. In the grocery stores, in the mall. On all the pop/rock and country radio stations.

Ok, well, wow – that voice, first of all. That voice. Seriously, what an amazing, beautiful, smooth voice. This must be what velvet sounds like.
